Personal Interview: Advantages And Conditions Of Being Accurate And Usable Information For A Research Study

    Number of Pages: 3

    Summary of the research paper:

3 pages in length. One of the most advantageous conditions where a personal interview provides the most accurate and usable information for a study is when qualitative methodology is guiding the research. Unlike its quantitative counterpart, qualitative analysis strives to reach deep into the human element of the study's subjects and draw forth a more authentic reply from respondents. The inherent value of a personal interview for qualitative purposes is such that it incorporates more than merely a vacant sheet of data-filled paper or sterile telephone interchange; rather, it provides a well-rounded sensory interpretation the respondent typically offers without realization, a factor that serves to readily enhance the overall interview outcome. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

In the research interview  an instrumentalization of the conversation takes place. A good conversation is no longer a goal in itself, but a means for providing the researcher with descriptions, narratives, texts -  to interpret and report according to his or her research interests (Kvale et al, 2008, p. 33). Choosing an appropriate research model  is paramount to revealing the most accurate outcome; while it is critical to uncover data without inadvertent bias or manipulation - an occurrence that can happen with any format -  qualitative methodology is especially fitting to draw accurate conclusions where people are the focal point of the study. Qualitative research strives to reach much more deeply into the subject  matter than its quantitative counterpart, providing a greater level of understanding pertaining to quality that cannot otherwise be disclosed through a research method that studies only quantity.  Qualitative research begins with intent to review a certain area as the researcher collects data and generates hypotheses through observations and/or interviews. These inferences of  inductive reasoning lend themselves to the overall strength of qualitative research, which lies in its validity or closeness to the truth; as such, good qualitative research that employs personal interviews
