A 7 page research proposal seeking approval of a project designed to discover possible connections between personality type and current occupation. It will be in the form of a longitudinal study because we will use as subjects alumni from this university who completed at least one Myers-Briggs survey while in school here, but we will ask these alumni to complete another survey more reflective of their current lives. These results will be compared to current occupational status and type in an effort to determine whether personality type can be used to predict future occupation.

Introduction Psychological testing is a primary tool for research and clinical work, influencing decisions made in
the lives of those taking advantage of the insight it offers. The purpose here is to seek to determine if the identification of personality type can be used to
predict adult occupation. The problem being investigated is whether knowledge of personality type can help identify the "right people for the right jobs."
Hypothesis It has been established that self-reported data is among the least reliable if the instrument used is not one that
has been proven over the years (Pervin, 1989). Survey respondents rarely intentionally skew their answers, but may attempt to answer questions in ways they believe researchers want them to
answer. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an old instrument that has been updated and field tested repeatedly, and is organized in such a way that most respondents are
unaware of any patterns present within it. The hypothesis for this proposal is that the MBTI will be useful in predicting occupational type
