arguments in respect to the philosophers philosophical atomism are presented. No additional sources cited. SA128Luc.rtf Lucretiuss philosophy, based on atomism, is somewhat intriguing. It suggests that man  will go nowhere after the present life and that religion and much of philosophy is flawed in that it looks towards an afterlife. In fact, the idea that the world  is just here, and that man exists simply as a scientific fact, and that there is nothing more, is rather persuasive. Why? There is no evidence per se that religion  is true. The fact that someone, or a group of men, wrote the Bible does not really prove Gods existence. It might have been fiction or a misinterpretation of what  was handed down. Lucretiuss argument is strong because he relies on what does exist, and not what might be. It is much easier to prove that when man dies, he  is just dead because the body is limp, the heart stops pumping, the body may be disposed of and there is no proof that the soul or anything else has  lived on. Indeed, the arguments such as the design theory are not as strong or persuasive as Lucretiuss stance. His argument is compelling because it is based on what his  eye can see as opposed to mere speculation about what might be. Of course, objections would be other theories that for example God exists because he is a perfect being  and it is more perfect to exist than not to exist, or the argument of design that goes to the fact that the world is so intricate and perfect it  could not have happened by chance. To those objections, Lucretius would point out that the logic is convoluted. Perfection is a state of mind, and a state of human mind.
