    this is, discuss critical theories concerning stress in law enforcement and come to an integrative conclusion regarding this topic. STRESS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT Law enforcement is made up of  a unique paradox of job parameters. Not only do law enforcement officers have to face death on the job on a daily basis, but also they must do it  with aplomb, courtesy and following stringent rules at the same time. If they make a mistake in apprehending a perpetrator then at best it could cost the court system  the ability to put the criminal behind bars and at worst it could cost the officer their life. Because of this intense dichotomy of duties there is no  wonder that law officers have high levels of heart attack, one of the highest suicide rates of any job in the country, as well as one of the highest divorce  rates among any other industry (Finn 20, 1997). Officers are often called upon to work around the clock with little or no overtime pay that gives them little family  time. When they get home it is almost impossible to immediately separate oneself from the job because they are always on call in an emergency. This creates stress at  home as well. All of this adds up to the fact that officers rarely have a place they can go to relieve their stress; it follows them home from  the job. For the most part these hard-working law enforcement personnel are underpaid considering the danger of the work they perform. When one not only has high stress  on the job, stress from the family at home, and barely enough to pay the bills, it creates a lose-lose situation. So how do officers learn to cope with all
