    he got the nation involved with the Seven Weeks War. Bismarcks departure would come in 1890, and again, things would change. Perhaps the greatest change that would emerge would be  in the realm of foreign policy. Bismarckian solutions were somewhat revolutionary but also had unintended dire consequences. Bismarcks strategy often involved bloody solutions. It is important to  note that in 1867 Bismarck was in fact striving to complete the unification of Germany (Reich, 1992). It was far from complete even at that time; in 1866, he had  united the Northern States of Germany into the North German Confederacy (1992). However, the Southern States of Bavaria, Wurtemberg, and Baden were not yet aligned with Prussia (1992). Some  have suggested that if military success over Bavaria in 1866 had been accomplished, Bismarck might have forced Bavaria and other Southern States of Germany to join the North-German Confederation (1992).  That of course is speculative. Another bit of speculation entails the way the Franco-Prussian War might have been avoided; that is, the unification of Germany might have actually  been secured in a peaceful way, without the loss in men and money which was brought about by the inevitable war (Reich, 1992). Such arguments have been made in the  past hundred years as people speculate on the past and discuss what might have been. What might have been done better in order to achieve the same result without the  autocratic leadership exhibited by Bismarck? This is something that historians contemplate. Yet, Germany has had a lot of problems throughout the years with leaders and it could have been that  someone else might have done the same or even worse. It is hard to tell. In looking at Germany with Bismarcks influence and the subsequent state, one has to wonder
