One of the practices that adds value also maintains this status as a top manufacturing plant  is that of Marions "circle of analysis". This may be seen as a toll that has foundation in a range of quality management tools where there is the need to  look at operations, analyse them develop then implement improvements and then analyse them again to create a cycle of continual improvement (Thompson, 1998). This is a cycle seen to be  repeated, in different guises though a range of improvement and management techniques that are highly regarded, such as six sigma, the 5 Ss and other total quality management tools (Thompson,  1998). Marions circle of analysis takes this a stage further, starting with data analysis a model is used to create a picture of the current value stream, with the circle  focusing on the creation of value within the plant. With this data the future value stream can be charted and projected, with this information it is then possible to consider  the use of different tools in order to increase that flow. The tool box is a range of models and tools, from the use of color-coded kanban cards to statistical  controls as well as the development and maintenance of cross training. The circle is one without boundaries and as such there are fewer constraints on what models and tools can  be used, so there is freedom and flexibility to help take the best elements from each model of the past as well as to create new systems. This may be  seen as a way of operating that is undertaken in a manner better than any of the comptometers. It is not a single track cycle, but in continual operations with
