    individual, the higher the goals she or he will obtain. It can be said then that professionals have a higher level of motivation than non-professionals in the area of their  careers. This correlation though can only be applied towards their motivation levels for their careers. Because of environmental influence the expectations of non-professional may be lower due to no support  for a possibility of a professional career. Their priorities may lie elsewhere and so may their motivation levels. Nevertheless, the importance of environment on goal expectations effects all levels of  employees, professional or not, on the opportunities and rewards provided in the workplace. Individuals will only be motivated to seek higher positions within the work place if the goals are  attainable. The expectation factors which influence motivation may work the same on professional and non-professionals, how the factors are used and directed may be different. Motivational Theories and Their  Application There are several motivational theories which have been used to determine an individuals success in professionalism and leadership. One of the most  commonly referred to motivational theories is that of expectance where an individual acts through his or her own self interest and adopts several courses of action to maximize the probability  of an intended outcome (Isaac, Zerbe and Pitt, 2001). In layman terms, if an individual wanted or expected to become a physician then he or she would maximize and motivate  themselves to seek any available opportunities in order to attain his or her goal. Throughout opportunities which are presented, those who expect to become professionals or management develop different interactive  and self motivation skills from those who do not have these same expectations (Isaac, Zerbe and Pitt, 2001). In order for individuals to obtain higher positions in management, they must
