humans are the superior species. This arrogance toward the rest of the animal kingdom has done nothing but threaten mans very own existence, given the fact that myriad species  have already been destroyed through such speciesism. Indeed, there are those who think that animals possess the most evolved of all consciousness, while still many others believe that animals  are so far below human existence that they are not worthy of even the most minute amount of conscious recognition, a justification used to support the continuation of barbaric animal  experimentation on dogs, cats and primates. "The more we learn about animal consciousness - not least because of some of the experiments the anti-vivisectionists condemn - and the more  we learn of their ability to feel physical pain and psychological distress, the more solicitous we should be about their welfare" (McElvoy 3). II. REASONS TO BAN ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION  Characteristic of any living being is the inherent right to live its existence free from intentional pain and suffering, as well as to  exist within the context put forth by nature. This concept has been completely lost on humanity, inasmuch as man has historically utilized animals for whatever purpose he deems necessary  without a thought for the animals needs. The issues that surround animal rights are both broad and complex; not only do they address the primal mistreatment of those from  the animal kingdom, but they also appeal to mans inability to recognize the sentience of any creature other than himself. Animal experimentation is a particularly huge component of the  animal rights argument, inasmuch as science has taken it upon itself to utilize dogs, cats and primates as a means by which to further the human race.
