The E Pluribus Unum Neighborhood Center (EPUNC) has come to a crisis point in funding, as is the case with so many other community programs.     The E Pluribus Unum Neighborhood Center (EPUNC) has come to a crisis point in funding, as is the case with so many other community programs. In this  day of shrinking government budgets, government sources become less of an option seemingly with each passing day. There are many other possible routes,  however. The Foundation Center (http://fdncenter.org) lists hundreds of foundations accessible at no charge, and thousands for a monthly subscription fee. Finding all appropriate potential grant-givers and proposal writing  is immensely time consuming, of course, but the possibility of full funding is worth the time invested. The purpose here is to identify these and other potential funding sources,  as well as some community-based programs that may be able to provide at least a portion of the labor needed at no charge. The Situation  EPUNC is a part of a larger program aimed at assisting the local immigrant population in becoming acclimated to their new town. There are several aspects of  the program, and only one that has come to be threatened in its continued existence. That is the after-school child care portion of the services offered by EPUNC, of  course. No government funds on any level - federal, state or local - are available to the child care program, and the larger program currently is experiencing negative publicity  in the local press. The situation appears to be dire for the child care portion of the service, but that is only a  superficial view. There are programs available and volunteer groups looking for areas in which they can serve. Further, the public image of the corporation has not been so
