    Summary of the research paper:

This 12 page paper looks at research issues raised in a case supplied by the student. A test was being trialed for use to assess the aptitude and abilities of students IT skills. The test results did not correlate with the expected results. The paper is written in three parts. The first part assesses the research methodology used for the initial trial, and looks at questions that could be asked of the students to help assess the reason for the problems; The second part of the paper identifies a research methodology that should be used to investigate the difficulties with the first trial and the last part of the paper proposed the research and looks at ways that problems, such as resistance from teachers may be overcome by developing a new implementation model. The bibliography cites 6 sources.

in computing. The tests were administered and then abandoned as the results were not those expected; the results indicated differing levels of abilities for the students tests compared to the  teacher assessments. The tests and the results are declared, but the scenario does not give the actual objectives of the testing that was taking place. When trying to  determine which type of research design was being undertaken we can look at some of those that may be applicable. There was the testing of some aptitude tests, therefore it  may be perceived that this was an experimental approach, as there was experimentation taking place. Experimental approaches are used when investigating a phenomenon or a theory which needs an investigation  rather then simply wait for chance to observe the required phenomenon. Although in the natural surroundings there may be some additional data it is also harder to consider all of  the variables and ensure that it is the correct observational recording. An example of an experimental analysis may be the causes of an engine to seize under certain conditions;  likewise it may be to determine if there are influences that may impact on the outcome of the tests. Experimentation can be set up in a laboratory or other controlled  conditions in order to test the different hypothesises that surround this idea and test which may be true or false. Although it does appear that the research was an  experiment to asses if it was suitable to measure the aptitude or abilities of students, it was not experimental, as there were not any changes in control issues, it was  an observation of the results and when they were not as expected the research was abandoned. Therefore, as this was based on observation we may argue that it was
