    for this increase are manifold with a number of factors likely to influence the phenomenon and since 1980, despite all of the research and attention the level of obese children  has doubled. It is only when the causes are fully understood that the problem has been tackled, understanding this from a human as well as a medical perspective.  The research by Lynn Kelly and Barbra Patterson in the research article "Childhood Nutrition: perceptions of carers in a Low Income Urban Setting"  has been undertaken to assess some of the social influence. The problem of childhood obesity has been shown to be worse in low income families, meaning that this is a  population of particular interest. For nursing this may be seen as a very important study, weight is very influential on health;  obesity itself can become a barrier to a healthy lifestyle, limiting access and motivation to usual childhood activities and create a long term psychological impact (Puhl et al, 2007), obesity  is a direct influence ion many health issues, obese children have an increased risk of diabetes, heart problem in later life and a number of other illnesses (Huang et al,  2007). The nurse will be involved if these risks materialize and may also have a role in preventative medicine, trying to help  reduce the level of obesity in their own patients. It is only if the causes and influences are understood that any interventions to reduce or prevent the risk or even  to treat and reduce the risk after it manifests, can be treated.
