    SWOT analysis consists of four key parts; an assessment of the organizations strengths, a catalogue of its weaknesses, an overview of the opportunities it enjoys in its current market, and  market-based threats that exist as well (Renault, 2012). The idea is that these four performance indicators offer a reliable overview of the overall competitive position of a company within a  given market; it can also be used to help shape strategic decisions going forward. Royal Caribbean is a cruise line, and one of the most widely known in the world.  It operates annual cruises to more than four hundred destinations, and utilizes a fleet of some 38 ships to achieve this feat; these ships together can hold an estimated 85,000  passengers at once (Datamonitor, 2010). A recent SWOT analysis on Royal Caribbean asserts that the company enjoys a "robust market presence" and is often one of the first companies that  people think of when they think of luxury cruises; this type of brand recognition is a major asset in a competitive environment (Datamonitor, 2010). Moreover, the company operates a larger  fleet of ships than its competitors, enabling it to boast a higher earning potential on the whole (Datamonitor, 2010). As for weaknesses, however, the company has recently seen its debt  grow by disturbing percentages, and its overall credit rating has been downgraded by a number of houses (Datamonitor, 2010). Opportunities present to the company suggest that the company might increase  its liquidity by raising revenue through focusing on international passengers rather than just North American passengers wishing to travel to international destinations (Datamonitor, 2010). However, it must be acknowledged that  a threat to this opportunity exists in the lack of spending exhibiting in North America and the Eurozone alike as economic crises continue to occur (Datamonitor, 2010).
