                                                    What is so compelling about this book is that we are able to see the man, Sam Adams, as more than just   
                                                
                                                    a list of his achievements.  Viewing historical figures in this manner often results with a very cold, detached view, despite how accomplished the person was.  However, in this   
                                                
                                                    book, we are really able to get a sense of who he was as a man, and as a person.  One cannot help but be affected by the stories   
                                                
                                                    which are recounted of the deaths of his wife and several children.  Given these insights, it is clear that he was a regular man with regular problems and hardships
