story of a young and inexperienced mother who painfully relates the deplorable circumstances of her life. The poverty of the depression era has wielded its impact on the mother
and her young daughter who moves through the one temporary home after another, for the most part feeling unloved and unhappy. As a consequence the child is left introverted
