any form of information. The field permeates all disciplines, all occupations and all lives. Information is so pervasive and so abundant that the technology to deal with it has caused  businesses and individuals to feel overwhelmed every minute of every day. Data and information can be distributed to millions of persons located in all parts of the world at the  same time in a fraction of a second. Hundreds of new occupations have been created as a result of the ability to store, retrieve and disseminate information. Hundreds of new  college programs and thousands of workshops and seminars have been created to teach individuals how to work within the field. Thousands of companies have been established that are involved exclusively  with information technology. Fortunes have been made (and lost). And, there is no end in sight. Technology and humans evolve simultaneously (Lombardo, 1997). Changes in one seems to either cause  or support changes in the other (Lombardo, 1997; The Hart-Rudman Commission, 1999). Many worry that technology will rob the species of its humanity but others have shown that humanity is,  in many ways, built and maintained by technology (Lombardo, 1997). It should also be remembered that humans invented the technology out of perceived needs (Nye, 1997). Consider how technology has  advanced the fields of ecology, medicine and biotechnology (Lombardo, 1997). Communication and information technology has brought the world closer together, "personal computers, business and social networks, servers, browsers, providers, telecommunication  systems, computerized industry and products, and the Internet" provide the opportunity for people in all parts of the world to access the very same information, ideas and data (Lombardo, 1997).  In many ways, the Internet has created its own global society, one can allow people of all different nationalities, religions, ethnicities and races to communicate with each other (Lombardo, 1997).
