Statistical Analysis of Seatbelt Wearing and its Impact

    Number of Pages: 10

    Summary of the research paper:

In ten pages this paper statistically analyzes the impact of increased seatbelt wearing with a surprising increase in the rates of accidents also examined. Nine sources are listed in the bibliography.

which health is protected ranges from warning on tobacco to legislation on seatbelt wearing to protect the lives of car drivers and passengers. If we wish to consider these  issues, some may be more straightforward than others, For example, if we consider the subject of seatbelts the there are statistics that indicate an increase in the use of seatbelts  reduces accidents and deaths. However, there are many other influences on the way that injuries are caused by cars, and the influence the seatbelts will have on this outcome. The  statistical reduction of injuries may also be seen as giving a false indication of increased safety, and when we look at the wearing of seatbelts by drivers we also need  to consider other individuals, such as passengers and pedestrians. If we look at the way that statistics reflect on all of these individual we may find there are some interesting  correlations. However, apparent correlations may occur, but they do not always indicate a causation. They may both be influenced by external factors that give a false indication. Therefore, when we  look at any statistical analysis, we need to use the traditional measures, such as percentage increases or decreases as well as changes in statistics over time, yet these alone are  not sufficient, we also need to carry out statistical analysis in order to prove or disprove if there is a relationship between the different data sets. Therefore, in this paper  we will undertake both in order to look at the overall impact that the wearing of seatbelts has on accident statistics. If we look at the statistics in the  US there are a large number of deaths caused by car accidents. These statistics are collected by the U S Department of Transportation Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS). These are
