    This 66 page paper is an exanimation of the way that eBusiness and eCommerce has impacted on supply chain management with the use of the UK supermarket Asda (a subsidiary of Wal-Mart) as a case study. The paper starts with an introduction which outlines the aims and objectives of the paper as well as the constraints. An in-depth literature review looks at the concept of the supply chain, Porters' value chain, the value of collaboration, inventory management techniques and the use of technology in supply chain management. There is a section on methodology, explaining the use of the case study and then Asda is examined in terms of the way it competes and the way that the supply chain management fits in which the competitive strategy. Introduction There is little doubt that  the advent of the internet and the development of e-commerce has revolutionized the way business takes place, many barriers have fallen and opportunities have opened up to increase the efficiency  within a firm especially in areas such as supply chain management. The benefits of e-commence include increased speed of transaction and communication, the ability for more processes to be automated  , the potential for supply chain management to become more transparent and facilities increased control over the way the supply chain is managed, with benefits for the links with both  upstream and down stream. Firms that have a high reliance of supply chain issues with large operations will often invest resources and capital into strategic supply chain management and  will suffer there is a breakdown. The supermarket industry is particularly susceptible to problems caused by inefficient supply chains possibly increasing costs and with regular supplies needing to be delivered  there can be a high opportunity cost where stocks of goods are depleted, not only with the immediate lost sales, but with the knock on effect as with few, or  no, transfer costs, consumers may choose to make their purchases elsewhere, especially if there are ongoing supply chain issues.
