    historical battles and many philosophical perspectives. With each struggle there seems to be a new thought, or an old thought rekindled in a revolutionary manner. As such, liberation can be  a very complex reality as well as a very simple approach to making the lives of a particular people better. Bearing that in mind the following paper examines three different  revolutionary thinkers and leaders as they involve liberation. The paper first discusses Gandhi, Mao Tse-tung, and Sun Yat-sen individually and then presents a brief comparison of the conditions the men  faced and the approaches they took towards liberating a people. Gandhi Gandhi is perhaps one of the most famous individuals when it comes to political involvement and  the liberation of a people. He was most noted for his non-violent approach that seemed to offer people a powerful way in which to battle oppression of one kind or  another. And, to make matters a bit more complex, he was not only dealing with political and social oppression, but a variety of religious factors as well. Interestingly enough, while  he began his liberation struggles from a religious standpoint, he slowly evolved into a man who understood that to rely on religion was to create more chaos. He saw that  one of his most powerful challenges involved religion and his approach slowly evolved into one that incorporated all thoughts, including atheism. As Nehru once stated, "Gandhi was essentially a man  of religion, a Hindu to the innermost depths of his being, and yet his conception of religion had nothing to do with any dogma or custom or ritual. It was  basically concerned with his firm belief in the moral law, which he calls the law of truth or love" (Erwin erwin.html). In light of the struggles we see existing today,
