JGAdlill.rtf White Noise Research Compiled for   Enterprises Inc. 11/2001 to Use This Paper Properly, INTRODUCTION One way to see White Noise  is to see it as a book that is about the difficulty of finding stability and authority in our lives. To explore this idea, DeLillo spends a lot of  time discussing systems such as belief systems, institutional systems, technological systems and more. This paper examines how these systems work in the book as well as how the characters  make sense of their lives. THE SYSTEMS The systems are what White Noise is all about. The many different systems that are in place that are haranguing people  about their lives and the world they live in. Being bombarded by information is what the systems are all about. The systems, however, do not indicate whether their  espousing of information is for the good or for the dearth of mankind. That is the one part the systems cannot control, and that is how the characters within  the book choose to use the information with which they are being bombarded. Each system takes on, in effect, its own miniature multi-system in that the information assimilated by somebody  is further diluted into the stewpot of their minds and spewed forth into somebody elses mind. These systems are in some ways copies of copies of copies.  As with the childrens game in which a secret is whispered around a circle into the next persons ear, by the time that secret gets passed around the entire circle
