    just misusing human resources. This is an unfortunate situation, but there are certainly solutions for the problem. The case begins by introducing Jim Madison who manages a branch office of  the Social Security administration (Northouse, 2004). Jim has been there six years and all the people under him have been there at least that long Northouse, 2004). The majority of  the staff think that Jim is doing a good job, but there is a problem in that Jim gives some of the workers more and different opportunities than some of  the others. Also, a portion of the staff believes that he treats some workers better than others Northouse, 2004). It is true that he utilizes the skills of certain people  because they are better workers for particular tasks. For example, he relies on Shirley and Patti for their extensive knowledge and sends Ted and Jana out into the field because  they are good at public relations (Northouse, 2004). Glenda and Annie are helpful in getting some of the slower workers up to speed (Northouse, 2004). In one respect, Jim does  what he has to do. He is able to use his staff selectively and allow people to explore their particular talents. Although this makes life easy for Jim, and is  good for the people who are chosen for the special tasks, the rest of the staff is resentful. Further, what is most troubling is that two workers pick up the  slack for slower claims examiners. This suggests that two workers are doing more than their fair share of the work, and also, that the others are not up to their  job. The slower processing takes a toll on the entire department. Jim is not really doing his job well. He should either get the slower workers up to speed or
