The fact that  at any given moment, some high school students are carrying deadly weapons is alarming. What is even more startling is that gun culture has crept into the presumably safe American  elementary classrooms where even kindergartners have to walk through metal detectors in some neighborhoods. There is no avoiding the problem of gun violence. The recent sniper incidents brought  forth more notions about gun control. Many people reason that if guns are outlawed, or at least there were stringent controls, there would be fewer fatalities. While it is true  that without guns, there would be less deaths--and that is not arguable--there are two sides to the story. One significant problem is that even if guns were illegal, that does  not mean they would cease to exist. Marijuana is by and large illegal, but is is just as prevalent as it was about thirty years ago. Mandatory sentencing laws have  not worked to change the drug culture. When anything is outlawed it seems that the black market rushes in and government has an even harder time controlling the situation. Clearly,  the government cannot control the influx of guns in general, but it can control the distribution of legal guns. In terms of laws regarding control of things such as alcohol,  drugs and guns, many of these issues are state regulated. It is in fact interesting to see how different regions, and different states in America, see
