a Saturday afternoon is to hold the entire world in your hands - a world that is filled with excitement, danger and super heroes who possess extraordinary characteristics and perform  amazing feats. Comic books are not meant to replace reality, but rather they insert small yet potent imaginary episodes into which an individual can dissolve when fantasy and escapism  beckon. The entire aura of comic books begins with the process of choosing which super hero will take center stage while the reader anticipates savoring the characters fantastic feats of  courage in the privacy of his or her own domain. Conspicuously apparent to selecting the most appropriate comic book is determining which flight of fancy one wants to follow  that particular day, a decision that cannot be taken lightly. Indeed, the sometimes-overwhelming sense of pleasure that accompanies such a task can be just as illuminating as reading the  actual comic book, which is why one must take great care in choosing the most appropriate character and story line for that particular moment. Understanding the motivation behind reading comic  books is paramount to perceiving the importance of such a seemingly good-for-nothing activity. The elements of fantasy and escapism are essential to perpetuate a creative and productive mind; comic  books, while appearing to project little more than superficial entertainment, provide these important components that are just as necessary for children as they are for adults. Coping with reality  is often a difficult maneuver, one that requires outlets of many different kinds. Comic books allow readers to become lost within the twists and turns of an extravagant story,  pretending to assume the super heros persona and perform fantastic feats that will save the day, while at the same time reaping the psychological benefits of such necessary mental release.
