It is a novel of wide reach and lots of colors: fun  in a breathless sort of way" (Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood: A Novel by Rebecca Wells, 2003). This is a brief review, or analysis, of the novel "The Divine  Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" by Rebecca Wells. It is also a brief review that clearly illustrates it is a story about many things, not the least of which is  the relationship between generations, and primarily the relationships between mothers and daughters. In the following paper we examine these relationships within Wells novel. Mothers and Daughters In many  ways the novel focuses on one particular mother and daughter relationship, a relationship that is used as a foundation for taking us back in time and a foundation for understanding  the possibilities in the future. This relationship exists between Siddalee and Vivi Walker. They are "an utterly original mother-daughter team" with Sidda being the daughter and Vivi the mother (Divine  Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood: A Novel by Rebecca Wells, 2003). Sidda is a talented young girl who is engaged in public appearances on stage as a dancer. However, the  two "get into a savage fight over a New York Times article that refers to Vivi as a tap-dancing child abuser" (Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood: A Novel by  Rebecca Wells, 2003). This fall-out between mother and daughter is the basis of the entire novel as the two grow and move in different directions, trying to find some sort  of balance to their relationship. It is this relationship that takes the reader back to the younger days of Vivi as she recalls her friends who are part of the
