    Number of Pages: 7

    Summary of the research paper:

This paper discusses the field of forensic entomology, which is the study of insect activity on corpses. Forensic entomologists can use information gathered from insects to determine various information about the crime, such as time and method of death. This seven page paper has five sources listed in the bibliography.

and more. By studying the stages of the insect activity on the corpse forensic entomologists have solved hundreds of crimes and this is becoming a more common field of  forensic science. FORENSIC ENTOMOLOGY Forensic Entomology is the use of insects in helping understand how long a body has been decomposing. It is useful  in the aid of legal investigations through studying the insects that are found on the body and determining what stage of growth they are in. There are three types  of forensic entomology: * Medicolegal * Legal * Stored Product Pests (Forensic Entomology 2002) The medicolegal entomology "focuses on the criminal component of the legal system and deals with  the necrophagous (or carrion) feeding insects that typically infest human remains" (Forensic Entomology 2002, PG). Urban entomology is the study of how insects affect humans in their own environment.  This area of forensic entomology would be used in either or both of criminal cases as well as civil cases. Insects feed on the living as well as  on the dead. When the insects chewing causes discernible damage the damage can be seen on the skin. The chewing of the insects causes markings and injuries to  the skin. The field of urban entomology can be of importance because the forensic entomologist can be a crucial part of civil judgment when it comes to monetary damages.  Insects are used in stored product test when they are found contaminating food. In this case the forensic entomologist can serve as a court witness in civil  as well as in criminal court proceedings that would be in some way connected to the contamination of foodstuffs. Insects can even tell what a person had been eating
