Literature indicates  that the role of leadership is highly influential in the way TQM is implemented and the outcomes, but how does the real world compare to the literature, and many articles  look principally at only limited aspects of leadership. The aim of this research is to examine the role of leadership in the implementation of TQM. Looking at the way  in which it may help or hinder implementation and the skills or characteristics that are likely to benefit the process. The use of a case study will facility qualitative research  that can be used to explore the theory and practice by comparing actuality against theory. 2. Introduction 2.1 Research Question TQM has become increasingly important over the last decade, more  and more firm are adopting aspects or dimensions of TQM. The aim of the research is assess the role and the importance of management during the implementation phase of TQM  at a firm. Therefore, the main research question is * What is the role of leadership in the successful implementation in TQM practices?  In order to undertake this a number of sub-questions can be used to guide the research. These include * Does the leadership behavior have an impact on the success  of TQM? * How do leaders make necessary movements in the organizational improvements? * Is strong leadership commitment an important and prerequisite to make successful change during TQM implementation phase?  * Which management and leadership skills and techniques will benefit a better implement TQM? 2.2 Justification for Research The general commercial environment
