oranges. There simply isnt any way of sketching the similarities between these utterly different societies. And yet, similarities do remain from these two very diverse times in history
as do many differences. Understanding these similarities and differences is crucial to understanding how far we have come and the impact of Christianity upon the world. The
1st Century Versus the 21st Century The first century A.D. was obviously significant for Christians because this was the birth of Christ
and the means of salvation for those who believed in him (Salvation: A Christian Overview, 2002). According to fundamental Christian interpretations, the Bible teaches that those who are
unsaved will go to Hell, while those who are saved will go to Heaven (Salvation: A Christian Overview, 2002). But, even from this early beginning there has been
much debate on the issue of salvation (Salvation: A Christian Overview, 2002). It was during this time that Jerusalem
was the center of the Christian church (Comparison of the First and Twentieth Centuries A.D., 2002). It is interesting to note that understanding the books of Acts and of
the Apostles in the Bible helps us realize that nearly a generation passed before the events of Jesus life were recorded into the Gospels (Comparison of the First and Twentieth
Centuries A.D., 2002). "Scholars argue that the choice of what was recorded had more to do with the situation of the early church at the time of their recording
rather than with a concern about creating a historical biography of Jesus" (Comparison of the First and Twentieth Centuries A.D., 2002).
