    greatly significant changes in only the past decade, and many of those changes are dependent on the efficient use of the higher levels of corporate information available now (i).  Astute organizations are cognizant of these changes and even now are creating climates in which that information can best enhance the bottom line.  There are many areas in which information technology (IT) is growing and changing, of course. There are education and medical applications that promise to change (or already have changed)  the form that these two broad areas take both now and in the future. As example, residents of outlying rural areas now have access to the often-superior training, knowledge  and specialization of urban medical professionals. Corporate Application Corporate application may apply in education and  medicine as well as in manufacturing and service industries, but corporate application of IT focuses on how available technologies and approaches to information can best have a positive effect on  any organizations bottom line. There is little room in todays business environment for anything but effective results. Any activity that cannot be justified in terms of a business  case is one on which the organization needs to spend none of its precious financial resources. At the same time, there are advances  in IT that can result in the sum being greater than the parts. Whereas IT departments formerly were charged only with record keeping and tracking historical corporate data -  i.e., sales that already have occurred or production capacity used during specific quarters - increasingly they are expected to fill strategic roles as well.
