    to crisis division. She is approximately 42 and is a checker at a grocery store. She has not risen in position, though her status makes her an integral part of  the workplace. According to the Phenomenological Model Of Work and Culture she appears to fit into the third, more subtle division known as "movement toward the inner circle or the  core of the occupation or organization" (38). In this we see that she has risen in terms of being regarded as viable in her position. She has not moved up  the ladder, but has "become more central and included as...she acquires experience and is trusted more" (p. 38). In truth, it seems she perhaps did this long ago for her  essay indicates that having been at this type of work for almost 30 years she is trusted and trusts herself. As mentioned, Babe is not interested in moving up  any ladder in the grocery business. She has always been a checker and has always loved it. This provides her with a stable foundation that does not need more and  thus does not negatively influence her family life. In fact she does not take her work home with her, or tries not to take her work home. She indicates a  bad day and how her family will state they should not talk to her, but then she laughs, "this is not a policy to bring home your work. You leave  your troubles at the store and vice verse" (Terkel 285). This does not mean that she does not do this sometimes, but that these types of integration, between work and  home, iron themselves out (Terkel 285). Babe seems to get a satisfaction just from doing good honest work where she obviously has some freedom. She likes the challenge of
