on most businesses, To understand how this has taken place this paper takes the form of a fictitious interview with a sales director of a retail business that is now  on the internet. The first question is why the business decided to go into e-commerce and followed by question that have looked to assertion the problems and successes encountered and  the results of the entrance into e-commerce. The following is a synopsis of what that interview may have revealed. The decision to enter  into ecommerce was a combination of pull and push factors. We had been aware of how the internet was growing, in a recent report we saw that in 2000 there  were 300 million people in the world accessing the internet, and there was a total of 407.1 million that had access to it (Hobley, 2001). This indicates a potential market,  however the real value of the market has also been seen to grow in terms of the value of transactions that take place through e-commerce. The company is based in  Europe and the figures for here in terms o market size are lower than the US, but still impressive. this amounted to US$87.4 billion, with a global total at this  time being US$657 billion in revenues (Hobley, 2001). By the year 2002 the consumer sales were projected at US$152 billion (Hobley, 2001). By the year 2004 the total revenues for  internet trade, otherwise known as e-commerce, is predicted at reaching US$1,533.2 billion (Hobley, 2001). We wanted a piece of this pie. This appeared easy to achieve, with fewer barriers to  trade, a product that could be solder internationally and the ability to take payments, there is the potential to reach a great many more potential customers though the internet.
