    reports on some domestic violence in which one partner (or child) ended up horribly injured or dead. This terrible trend is likely to continued, and even increase, especially in light  of the current economic downturn. Statistics have proven again and again that incidences of domestic violence increase as unemployment rises. When it  comes to domestic violence, however, much attention is focused on women, which is understandable. Statistically, women and children end up as the victims, with males typically doing the battering. Yet  were finding more and more evidence - both statistical and anecdotal - that men suffer from battering from female spouses as well. In addition, men in homosexual relationships can also  suffer battering from their partners. These batterings tend to be more "hidden," however, as the shame is greater. Society tends to feel sympathy for a battered woman - and contempt  for battered men. Because of this, we feel a shelter that caters to the needs of battered men is essential. We see  the shelter as all encompassing, similar to the models suggested by womens shelters. In addition to providing a treatment center, wed also propose that this shelter offer a place for  battered men to regroup as they are trying to flee their abusive situations. Also located on-site would be space for hotline support. The mission of this shelter would be to  assist men who have suffered abuse at the hands of their spouse or gender. We would make no distinction between physical and psychological abuse - although due to the number  of space we would have available, physical abuse would have to take precedent. Staff Our battered mens shelter would rely on volunteers
