    Trade Center disaster along with the cumulative effects of other acts of terrorism lodged in the United States. The Oklahoma City bombing is also discussed. Ways in which people cope,  how the 2001 disaster has affected people spiritually, psychologically and economically is included. Bibliography lists 5 sources. SA141ter.rtf I. Introduction  The events of September 11, 2001 are ones that will be etched into the minds of citizens of the world, and truly affects Americans most. Up until that date, while  terrorism was always a threat, in the minds and hearts of the American people, they were free to go about their business. They barely thought about biological warfare, although that  is sometimes a topic they might see on Dateline or 20/20, but by and large, everything was copasetic. When two pilots each  plunged a plane into the two tallest buildings in lower Manhattan, everyone watched in shock. People in the tri-state area lost loved ones. Families were torn apart. People were crying,  whether or not they actually knew anyone personally, and weeks after the event, people are depressed. Some are also affected economically. The stock market was closed for several days and  it would not be until the following Monday that the opening bell would ring-a task accomplished by firefighters and other heroes-only to witness a free fall. The market did correct  itself after a bit of a roller coaster ride. Everything the Americans had valued-their freedom, their loved ones, their economic success-was taken away  within the hour that the towers imploded. Nothing would be the same again. Of course, many historical events have changed the lives of people. There was World War II, Vietnam
