A qualitative research design is one that is emergent, which means the investigator does not know exactly what documents will  be collected, who will be interviewed or who or what will be observed at the beginning of the study (Merriam, 1988). Qualitative research has not enjoyed the same amount of  respect as quantitative designs because people still tend to rely more on the medical and scientific models. This attitude has changed and qualitative research is being accepted more and more  these days. This is most likely attributable to the care and vigilance so many researchers using this approach take to make their studies acceptable to the academic community. Usually,  a researcher will begin a project with a list of questions to explore. As the researcher becomes involved in the literature review, the original questions may need to be modified  because there is just too much information (Merriam, 1988). Thus, the researcher of this very project must be prepared to narrow the questions and even eliminate a field of inquiry,  if needed. Flexibility is a must in this type of research. Specifically, this study will use a literature review as the methodology. Although a literature review is a component in  all research studies, it can also be used as the research method, which examines "data from a variety of sources that ultimately results in the compilation of known information on  a subject" (Responsive Management, n.d.). The researcher must search for and obtain multiple sources of information that address the issues in the study (Responsive Management, n.d.). When a literature review  is used as the research methodology, it provides a synopsis, a concise summary of what the literature says about the topic(s) (Responsive Management, n.d.). This type of study becomes a
