THE LETTER Dear Celeste, I wanted to write  as soon as I was told you were well enough to receive mail. Imagine my shock when told that my favorite cousin had been institutionalized for visions of vampires  and other gothic horrors, and the undue suspicions that your future father-in-law, General Tilney of Northanger Abbey, had actually murdered his late wife (Austen, Northanger Abbey, PG). Let me assure  you this is not at all the case, and that General Tilney is indeed innocent of such charges. I am taking steps now to see that she is the one who be institutionalized rather than yourself. However, I am having somewhat of a problem  convincing the doctors entirely of your sanity, as they tell me that you continue to harbor fantasies about your true identity. The nurses seem to be on your side  however. One of the nurses, I am told, in referring to you to my aunt, your mother, that "every step she took toward relieving herself from obligations adds to
