    is quite easy to understand how it would be virtually impossible to exist day to day without its collective contributions. One product in particular that has been both a  blessing and a curse to modern-day living is the cellular phone, a wireless telecommunications device that has all but transformed the way in which people communicate. Cellular communication technology made  its first entrance some fifty years ago, with a significant leap made approximately twenty-five years ago that set the stage for what is now - according to the Cellular Telecommunications  Industry Association -- a sixty-million customer operation (Wireless Roots). What began as a paltry three million-dollar market in 1984, where Motorolas clunky "brick" phone was heralded as the new  technological breakthrough in wireless communication, has exploded to nearly thirty billion dollars in annual revenue. Indeed, the desire for wireless communication has found its place in business, pleasure and  emergency situations. "What started out as a novelty to those who could afford the service, has now became the property of the masses" (An Overview of the Cellular Industry).  From parents who supply their teens with them as a safeguard to the spare one kept in the car for emergency purposes to the busy executive who is able to  keep abreast of last minute details with the one that always accompanies him on business trips, cellular phones have allowed people of all walks of life to become more in  touch at a moments notice. No longer is it necessary to wait in line for a pay phone when one needs to make a call; rather, the attractive and  highly competitive monthly packages enable people of all budgets to use their cellular phones as they would a landline.
