It sometimes seems that proponents of "natural" health products claim that they have the cure for everything from the common cold to cancer. There is a sense  among many that the earth holds everything that we need for optimum health, but others claim that only hard science can benefit the human condition.  Several studies have indicated that garlic may provide a safe and effective bridge between the pharmaceutical industry and that commonly referred to as "neutraceuticals," otherwise known as purveyors  of hearsay and faulty science. If garlic truly is effective at reducing undesirable types of cholesterol and guarding against the development of cancer, then patients should be able to  benefit from including it in their daily routines. The Problem It was in the 1970s that actor Ted Danson proclaimed, "The ocean will  be dead in seven years!" Mobil promoted its "biodegradable" trash bags, "safe" for the environment. It neglected to include the information that the bag material was biodegradable in  sunlight, a condition generally not found at landfills. Myriad other false claims and half-truths centered around the environment, with the result that a serious matter was trivialized to the  point that relatively few paid attention to it at all. In many respects, the same has occurred in the discussion of anything "natural"  being used to treat modern illnesses. The mainstream medical community generally dismisses ancient Chinese medicine as being unscientific, and the pharmaceutical industry struggles against adoption in the United States  of products such as St. Johns Wort - the most widely prescribed antidepressant in Europe - for depression or intravenous chelation therapy for chemical cleansing of internal arterial walls.
