Howard in fact does have both a radio and television show, but while the parody was probably of Howard, it is hard to say  in a day and age when lesbians and panties are discussed on other shows like Jerry Springer and The Man Show. How can one explain the appeal and success of  Howard Stern and his cohorts, and also, how has he changed things for the industry? No matter what one thinks of Howard Stern, one has to admit that he is  a pioneer and a stern supporter of the first amendment. If it were not for him, it is likely that radio would sound differently and television would not be as  risqu?. Of course, some suggest that radio and television has gone too far and so, everyone has a different take on Sterns accomplishments. Clearly, he has supported the idea that  people should be able to say what they want on radio, and many people think it admirable when one stands up for the first amendment. Yet, it was not an  easy road to take. In 1992, the FCC fined the Infinity Broadcasting Company--the firm that employs Stern--with a $600,000 fine ("FCC" 65). The FCC was purportedly acting from pressure  imposed by conservatives like Jesse Helms, and the FCC has been increasingly hostile to "shock radio" (65).
