PEST Analysis Political The political environment is one that has a high level of impact on General Electric. The political environment has been very changeable in recent  years. The level of anti Americanism has increased as a result of the US declaring war on Iraq. This has impacted on many businesses. To businesses which have interests in  some of the more volatile areas there is now an increased risk to the staff. This was seen with the recent attack on the HSBC in Turkey, GE is just  as vulnerable with many of it operations being potential soft targets. There are also many other political influences, the changes in the  way employment law develops, to the way in which product liability needs to be considered may also be seen as linked to the political environment. The government policies may  also help drive the market, as with the current measures deigned to reduce the digital divide (Hess, 2001) Economic The economy has been a big influence on the compnay, If  we look at the peromance fo the company before the decline triggered by September 11th it recognised that General Electric is one of the most profitable companies in the world  (PR Newswire, 1999). The company wanted the best in terms of management and was prepared to pay for it. It was recently announced  that the remuneration of the CEO; Welch was $16.7 million in terms of salary and bonus (Murray, 2001). As far as the shareholders are concerned they must be pleased, as
