    a powerful determination Heinrich Schliemann became known as the man who uncovered the historic Troy. In the following paper we examine Schliemanns life, arguing that, despite the fact he was  not a trained archaeologist, he is best known for his discovery of Troy. Schliemann "The life of Johann Ludwig Heinrich Julius Schliemann began on January 6, 1822 in  the small town of Neu-Bukow, in the County (Landkreis) of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, in Germany. He was the son of an adulterous pastor, Ernst Schliemann, and his wife Luise Therese Sophie Schliemann"  (King, 2002; kingbio.html). Schliemann claimed, later in life, that he had received no childhood education, however, at the age of eleven he was capable of writing an essay "Odysseus and  Agamemnon in Latin and briefly attended the Carolinum Gymnasium, a classical preparatory school in Neustrelitz. He had to leave the Gymnasium, because his father quickly squandered the sum of money  that he had been received, when removed from his position as pastor for alleged misappropriation of Church funds" (King, 2002; kingbio.html). It was in this school that he began to  learn about the possibilities for earning a great deal of money in St. Petersburg, Russia (King, 2002). When looking back, and examining Schliemanns early interests, it is perhaps  difficult to pinpoint when he truly became intrigued with the idea of Troy. "He claimed to have been born with a natural disposition for the mysterious and the marvelous, but  he frequently lied about his life, and even lied in his personal diaries. David Traill, one of the worlds leading experts on Schliemann, has accused him of being a pathological  liar" (King, 2002; kingbio.html). Interestingly enough, despite the lack of real evidence, with controversy rising high, there have been many who attempted to utilize scientific evidence to prove that Schliemann
