Her  inability to confront the man with just as strong a conviction as what he demonstrated only served to make her feel that much more ill at ease with the entire  conversation. Indeed, this interaction illustrates the manner by which people are bound by certain criteria they have developed throughout their lives, often to the extent of being ill-equipped to  handle such intense interpersonal contact. II. GENDER ISSUES That this interaction took place between a man and a woman, as opposed to  two men or two women, speaks to differences in self-awareness, assertiveness, communication apprehension and the listening process. Clearly, there exist myriad differences between men and women, with one of  the most prominent being the manner in which they speak. The variations that exist within gender language are sometimes quite conspicuous, while at other times remain quite subtle; however,  one thing is certain: the formation of these variations originates early in childhood from parental influence. Without realizing it, parents verbally address their  male children differently than they do their female counterparts, which serves to establish a significant disparity in the manner each gender ultimately utilizes the language. Experts in the field  of child development have consistently found that this incongruous approach parents have toward their children begins at quite a young age, insofar as the mother and father -- individually as  well as collectively -- "communicate one way to baby girls and a different way to baby boys" (Anonymous PG).
