If people are given the opportunity to purchase a perfectly good title from someone who offers it to them at a significantly reduced rate, as opposed  to buying it full-priced from a licensed dealer, far too many individuals jump at such a chance. That is precisely why the software industry is suffering from economic and  developmental difficulties. According to Software Business Association President Robert Holleyman, "More and more people are getting into [software counterfeiting] because they realize that its a lucrative business...Although the majority  of counterfeiting still takes place in Asia, it is becoming a bigger threat to software publishers doing business in Europe" (Cunningham, 1994, p. 41). When the student discusses researcher status,  it will be important to note that since software piracy is a global concern, there are myriad international researchers and research institutes working feverishly to address the escalating problem.  The wider problem that exists in the real world because of such research indicates that the epidemic proportion of software piracy is a problem that will not abate any time  soon; the opportunity for making fast cash from a licensed label is far too great a temptation. "The greatest piracy losses worldwide result from governments failing to ensure that  their own agencies use only legal software...Solving this problem would do more than any single remedy in reducing software piracy losses" (Bloomberg, 1999, p. 2D).  To better understand the research process as it relates to amassing statistical information regarding software piracy, it is imperative for the student to first comprehend the how the  process works. The job of developing a mathematical equation can be quite complex, because there has to be some idea of the nature of the relationship between each of
