shops across three towns. At the current time each shops has its own computer system, and each manager is responsible for all ordering, stock control and associated activities, such as
forecasting the demand. The sales results are sent to the shop which acts as head office once a week and the shops report sales figures by telephone daily. This
has worked in the past, but it is also inefficient, the forecasting can be hit and miss, the separate ordering from each shop means that the firm is not gaining
larger order discounts and there is a large amount of time taking with the communication of operational issue. The proposal is to introduce a new system that allows the
firm to have a single network. The small size of the firm and the geographical diversity means that a traditional network may not be viable as such a virtual private
network (VP) is proposed which will allow for increased centralization. 2. Objectives The firm is small and is not able to benefit from the economies of scale seen ion many
competitors; it is also being hindered by slow information flow and needs to become more efficient and able to respond quickly and more accurately to changes in demand. The implementation
of a system, to allow for the different elements of the business to be brought together under a single system would be advantages and essential of the firm is going
achieve increased efficiency. The project will have the following objectives; * To identify the ways in which greater integration would be of benefit to the firm. * I
identify potential venders and systems that will supply the features needed to implement an integrated system across of five shops, which is also scalable for when the firm expands further.
