    is like to be black in America. Issues such as forced and selected segregation, teaching the black child versus teaching the white child, and the supervision of black workers, all  come into play in his work. Of these three issues however, one would have to state, seems to carry more weight. That is the issue of segregation and its effects  on the education of the black child. This book reminds one, somewhat, of Anne Moodys book, Coming of Age in Mississippi. In this book, Moody chronicles her growing up  time in Mississippi during the sixties and the types of prejudices that she had to face from within and without her community. What is particularly interesting is that Anne is  clearly not only upset with the whites that she meets and deals with, but with the blacks as well. As she says, "I was 15 years old when I began  to hate people... I hated all the whites who were responsible for the countless murders... But I also hated Negroes. I hated them for not standing up and doing something  about the murders" (Moody 129). What is most interesting about this statement is that she has the perception at such an early age to realize that in order to better  their conditions they had to stand up to what wasnt right. In other words she saw that there was a combination of factors, and not all of them resting on  the white side, which had contributed to the black mans demise. This is the same type of sentiment which is echoed in Hendersons work. The problem with segregation is  two-fold. There is a sense of comfort in surrounding oneself with others who are physically like one, who embrace the same cultural background and history that you do. Given this,
