SA144HdB.rtf  Robb called him a " French novelist whose powers of creation were matched only by his self-destructive tendencies" ("Graham" PG). Some believe that he wrote the finest novels in  the Realist tradition (PG). He is said to be the originator of naturalism in his genre ("Honore" PG). It is hard to argue. Honor? de Balzac was a writer  of great importance. He lived during a tumultuous time, but also during a great artistic era when Paris was a center of explosive creativity. Certainly, Balzac was challenged, but his  financial problems seemed to hinder his development. There are some who theorize that he had not become all he could have. That is debatable, as few would criticize the work  of this novelist who had the ability to crank out one good book after another, much like a Stephen King of the twentieth century, but with more talent.  Honor? de Balzac was born in Tours, France in 1799 ("Balzac" Biography. Com PG; Balzac Hutchinson PG). He went to school at Coll?ge de Vend?me  and the Sorbonne as well (PG). He left for Paris, despite parental opposition in 1819 ("Biographies" PG). He was twenty then. Young and innocent, he was not acquainted with  the real world. He would soon learn some of lifes toughest lessons. Between 1819 and 1830 he led a life with continual privation and industry, and the author accumulated much  debt during the period ("Balzac" Biography. Com PG). This created a situation where the author was harassed until the end of his career (PG). While he was a great writer,
