role it is excepted to play in commerce in the future is much greater than the role it plays today. This is true of many sectors of industry, especially the  retail industry. We can argue that the impact on high street shops has been limited due to the cultural changes that are required. However, there is an impact being felt  in some sector, the travel industry is one of them. We can argue that part of the reason for this is the way that a holiday or travel plans are  not an item that is bought in a shop, the purchase is the facility to reach the holiday. The perception of purchasing a flight ticket on the Internet as  opposed to going into a travel agent may be seen as a simple extension of telephone booking services, however, much simpler for those who known what they want, as they  can undertake the purchase twenty four hours a day, from the comfort of their home or office, without even needing to talk to anyone. However, we may argue that  this is limiting those who do want information and a human voice. Yet in this we can also see that there is a role for the internet. Entire holidays can  be booked on the internet, it is a facility that is able to provide a great deal of information, and those that may book in his manner are also likely  to be dextrous in the use of the internet and may use it as a tool to fond out more regarding the potential holiday destination. Therefore, this is a  tool that is empowering holiday makers and travellers. IN any industry there is a phenomena known as asymmetry of information. This is where one party will know more than another.
