impossible not to make distinctions between white collar crime and violent crime. While both are obviously crimes and therefore considered wrong, white collar crime is less serious than other,  more violent types of crime. Essentially, the reason for this is that white collar crime does not produce physical harm for any individual, as is the case with violent  crime. An example would be mail fraud versus murder. While anyone could agree that both of these are crimes, everyone would also agree that murder is much more  serious than is mail fraud. Furthermore, it is important to make distinctions between the effects of these crimes. Violent crime hurts its victim physically. Not only that, but  others whose lives are entwined with the victim also become victims of the violent crime themselves. In the case of white collar crime, although there can be severe effects  in terms of finances or mental state, there is no physical damage done to the victim. This is what separates these two very different types of crime. White  Collar Crime White collar crime takes place in the workplace. White collar crime is carried out by anyone from an executive  to the lowest-ranking person in an business or organization. First, it is important to understand just what white collar crime actually is: White collar crime is defined as  "Illegal acts that use deceit and concealment - rather than the application or threat of physical force or violence - to obtain money property or service; to avoid the payment  or loss of money; or to secure a business or professional advantage.
