    very powerful piece of literature that illustrates various perspectives concerning the truth, with the underlying message relating to the truth as seen by Camus. In this novel he offers us  a vague and intriguingly real look at the existence of the stranger, the man who is the main character in the story. The novel then takes us into an environment  where the stranger is illustrated through the eyes of society, offering us a different view or truth concerning the incidents and the man who is the stranger. In the following  paper we examine these two different perspectives. The Events As we read Camus novel we see a man, Meursault, discovering that his mother has just died. He is  not sure when she died, and does not seem unduly upset at the entire incident: "Mother died today. Or maybe yesterday, I dont know. I had a telegram from home:  mother passed away. Funeral tomorrow. Yours sincerely. That doesnt mean anything. It may have been yesterday" (Camus NA). He appears, in many ways, almost emotionless when we compare  him to how most of us would feel. However, at the same time we reserve judgment due to the fact that we do not know the situation between Meursault and  his mother and we do not understand what type of relationship they had together. We also begin to understand that he and his mother did not have the best of  relationships and were growing increasingly distant from one another and from one anothers lives. As the story progresses, however, we begin to understand something of Meursaults attitudes towards life.  He is not necessarily an emotional man, nor is he an excited man in regards to anything in particular. He begins what appears to be a possible relationship with a
