Many of todays multinational corporations (MNCs) have their roots when success was equated with size. The ability to operate in many markets has many advantages, but there are also disadvantages.
In order to appreciate the real situation of todays MNCs their position may be considered with the use of a SWOT analysis to look at the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and
threats that they face. Strengths of MNCs are wide-ranging, and they can vary between companies. Any multinational corporation is operating in a number
of markets, this indicates that there is spread of risk. If one market suffers, they are operating in many others. MNCs may also benefit in terms of the way the
currency risks are spread over a large number of countries. With widespread operations are also likely to be in a good position
to benefit from the presence of comparative advantages between different companies. The ability to manage a supply chain over a number of countries and/or continents can an hour before specialisation
in certain areas under control of costs. Were external suppliers are used MNCs would often have a high level of bargaining power, allowing them the advantage in contract negotiations.
Strengths May also include access to resources. MNCs will have a range of resources that can be utilised and leveraged. With large-scale operations there
is the potential to use these to gain economies of scope and scale (Nellis and Parker, 2000). In addition to the scale advantages, the positions of the company may also
facilitate the ability to attract employees with specific expertise. With the ability to offer international employment MNCs are also attractive to many highly qualified individuals who may want to work
